Getting Started
A first step might be to spend some time considering your own educational philosophy: How do you feel about “school?” What do you remember as worthwhile in your own education? What didn’t you like? How do you feel about education now? What elements of self-education are most appealing to you? What do you avoid or dread when it comes to learning? What do you believe would be the ideal educational experience?
We highly recommend that people new to TJED get a copy of A Thomas Jefferson Education: Teaching a Generation of Leaders for the Twenty-first Century by Oliver DeMille, founder and chancellor of George Wythe University. Read the book, take notes, have a conversation with it. What strikes you as especially meaningful? What do you disagree with? What additional questions would you like answered? What is the most important point on each page? The book is available over the Internet on Amazon.com as well as through TJEdMarketplace.com. In fact, we suggest you invite several of your favourite people to read the book, too, and then get together and discuss what you’ve read.
